In OFP, setting a unit's damage to a negative value will set it's health to full, but impair their aim. In ArmA, setting a unit's damage to a negative value will increase it's hitpoints. Note the unit may still be killed by receiving above a certain amount of damage to specific component (eg, headshot will still kill a soldier).
