The AI players achieve remarkable accuracy with grenades. Is it possible as a human player to achieve such accuracy? This is a question many of the newer players to ArmA/OFP may ask.
General Overview
The grenade physics in ArmA are very different to games such as CS:S and BF series.
First of all, there are 4 types of grenades:
US Grenade
Will explode after around 3-5 seconds. You can bounce these off walls and the main cause of death is the concussion.
RUS Grenade
Will explode on impact. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BOUNCE THESE!
Smoke Grenade
Emits coloured smoke used in fire and movement or identification of different markings.
203/25 Grenades
Fired from grenade launchers. These will not bounce, but however, if fired at a low angle, will 'skip' along the ground until the heavier nose of the grenade come in contact with the ground.
The only way to get better at grenade throwing is to practise. Use the SP Training Mission to get use to aiming the grenades, or if you are based in an on-line squad, talk to your Commander about different methods they may have devised themselves.
Particular Strategies
Some strategies which AI often used is this:
Position Inaccurate
If you know there is an enemy somewhere, but you know only his approximate location, drop the grenade there.
Bunch of Bad Guys
If you see several enemy soldiers close to each other and you are not in hurry (like they are not aware of you yet), throw a grenade.
