Located in the Phaethontis quadrangle, Ptolemaeus Crater is roughly 165 km in diameter. It is the location where the first soft landing on Mars was achieved by the Soviet Mars 3 lander. The crater itself provides an insight into past processes that occurred on the surface of Mars.
