IC:ArmA Starts the Seventh Campaign

Summary IC-ArmA, the largest and longest running PvP Armed Assault Tournament in the world returns on the 4th April 2009 for its 7th full 10 week campaign. Originating in January 2007 and fighting its first campaign that May, IC-ArmA holds the record for the most number of people in a single ArmA game (124 in September 2007). IC-ArmA utilizes two fictional armies using a rank based military command structureled by a High Command Staff to fight 3hr long PvP battles at 6BST every Saturday night. These battles consist of infantry, armor and air which result in the most comprehensive PvP battle experience you are likely to experience. The tournament is free to join. If you wish to pick a particular side to join, there is a 6euro fee. There is absolutely no charge for random army assignments.

Mods & Addons IC-ArmA values the efforts by addon makers within the ArmA community. As such IC-ArmA took the decision to where possible to use community addons to add variety to our existing players but to also to show support for the addon makers. As such the core IC7 mod will ustilise primarily the FFAA Mod and the Swiss Mod. All of the required mods are combined and available to download in a single pack from the IC-ArmA website.

Island For IC7, IC-ArmA continues its tradition of Island development. Following in the footsteps of the Wedge, creator of IC Barbuda and IC Training Island, our own Ignacio has developed IC Alameda. IC Alameda is a very large island, roughly 1.5x North Sahrani and its interior is reminiscent of the Bagango area of Sahrani. The coastal regions are drier & less lush. The island itself has in the region of 50 settlements of varying size. These settlements form the basis of the IC-ArmA Campaign system.

Battle System IC-ArmA has always focused on simplicity. This successful ideology is carried through in the current campaign system. In recent campaigns IC-ArmA has evolved into a dynamic system where by static Objectives must be captured within a Region. Once all of the Objectives in a Region have been secured, the Region moves on. IC7 on Alameda will have 5 Fronts spread evenly across the island. 1 of these fronts is fought on each week giving a sense of a fight across the island, but concentrating the fight week to week. Each of these Fronts has Regions with 3 town based Objectives in each. As such, an army must capture 3 towns and hold them before advancing to the next Region. Once an objective has been occupied and cleared of enemy, all 3 objectives must be held simultaneously for around 7.5minutes. As one can imagine achieving this requires a lot of skill, battle preparation and planning. The winning condition is simple; whoever holds the most Regions across the 5 Fronts after 10 weeks wins the campaign.

As most of you know we have a new cap system in place this campaign, with the intention to make the gameplay more territory-focused as opposed to cap point-focused.

The ongoing campaign looks to be one of, if not THE, most exiting so far, with a new mod containing a lot of new goodies and a new campaign concept. Thanks to our in-house dev-team and quite a few modders from the community we have added a bunch of new toys for the armies to blow each other to pieces with.

Jones' artillery and Ike's T-90 are two of the new heavy hitters, and we also have the Be-32 from GranQ to help out with those express deliveries, along with some other stuff to help the armies fight the good fight.

Scrim 1 was the premiere for the new mod and the new territory capping concept, both very well received. It was fought in what will be the Northern chain in the campaign, the one we call the 'Airborne chain'. The second chain will be armor-based and together they're putting a whole new spin to the teamwork this tournament fosters. It will also be quite the test to the players' skill as they might pilot a UH-60 one battle and be the gunner of an MBT the next.

All-in-all, we think campaign 6 will be the opening salvo in a whole new type of IC experience, so don't hesitate - join the fun today!

Capture System

Here is example how the sector control and capture system is configured to work.

- Blufor holds Capture Position for 10 seconds.
- All CPs turns Orange or Green on map.
- Clock starts ticking toward Capping the Zone. Zone capping takes 8.5 minutes.
- Opfor kills Blufor in CP1
  a) CP1 is gray … timer continues.
  b) CP1 is opposite color because opfor guy moves in & caps … timer Pauses (does not stop)
     a) Blufor kills the opfor in CP1 … timer continues from where it paused.
     b) Opfor gets all the CPs and turns them red by holding them for 5 secs … timer for Blufor stops and timer for Opfor starts.

so…

Any CP turning gray does not PAUSE or STOP the timer.

Any CP turning Red will PAUSE the timer BUT will not STOP(or restart or zero) the timer.

So when blufor kills the opfor guy in the red cap and when CP the turns Gray/Green back again, clock starts ticking from where it was left off/paused, and NOT from 0.

Only method to completely stop the timer is to turn all the zones to your color as if you are capping the zone, seeing all 4 CPs red on map. This stops the timer for Blufor and start the timer for Opfor.

There may be some small variations from these times, 5secs to cap CP and 3mins to cap CZ due to server performance/network issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dog Fight Over Barbuda

Is this like a clan? No. We are not a clan. We do not rely on any external organizations, ladders, clubs, or groups for this tournament. International Conflict:Armed Assault has its own schedule, servers, administrators, forums, and armies - everything needed to run independently and entirely on its own. Individuals and members of clans are welcomed to join, but you will have to leave your clan tags/affiliations at the door.

Isn't that like breaking up clans? Not at all, IC-ArmA understands that members have outside affiliations. IC:ArmA is about building team work and making friends in the international community, and of course, having fun.

How do these 2 forces fight each other? International Conflict utilities Armed Assaults multiplayer component to stage large scale battles. The two teams fight it out on an official battle day to determine who is victorious. The armies fight over nominated territories and they carry them forward to the next battle day.

How Large is Large? We have an average of about 100 players in each battle with 126 players being the current (May 2008) record. We hope with your help, we can keep pushing it further and further!

What are the requirements to join International Conflict:Armed Assault?

  • You must have your own legal copy of Armed Assault
  • You must have a set of speakers and a mic.
  • You must download and use TeamSpeak.
  • You must visit the forums as much as possible.
  • You must have fun.

Why Teamspeak? It is imperative that each force communicate within their teams. TeamSpeak is a very simple, and flexible Voice-Over-IP (VOIP) software program that enables you to communicate via a mic to your teammates on a server separate from the game server. TeamSpeak is free to download. And having speakers and mic, and downloading and using TeamSpeak is a requirement of the tournament. You may use a headset with mic as well.

How often do these forces fight each other, and for how long? Official Battle days are one day every weekend (unless posted otherwise, e.g. due to Holiday, etc.). Currently they are 3 hours long each Saturday.

Do I have to play the entire time? No. You can play as much as you can or as little as you want. Some players can hammer out the whole lot, and others can only put in 1 hour.

How are the 2 forces organized/structured? Each army has their own organizational structure as established by their Commanding Officers and General Staff. Each is broken down into sub-divisions or companies that has its own Officers, Non Commissioned officers, and enlisted troops.

Do I have to follow the orders of higher ranking players? Yes. To achieve the level organization we strive for here, it is important that orders be followed and carried out.

How can I advance my rank? One word, PARTICIPATE. Show up for practices, show up for battles, take part in discussions on the forums, hang out on the TS server, get to know your officers. That will get you started. Then it all depends on your qualities as a leader, and that is more complicated, do you have what it takes to lead men in combat?

What is the official language of the tournament? English, spoken on TS and written in forums.

Is this a very competitive tournament? Is the atmosphere cutthroat? International Conflict stresses teamwork, strategy, organization, friendship, and most of all fun. The members here take playing the game in the campaign very seriously. They came to International Conflict looking for organization and to get away from the chaos and anarchy that can and does take place in the public servers. At the same time, lifelong friendships are made and on non-battle days, many members will go "pubbing" to have fun and practice teamwork (they will jump on a public server). And at other times, many members just hang out on our TeamSpeak server.

Now the Big Question - when? Sign up is open NOW!
