The protagonist is a American soldier who has been deployed in the Kingdom of South Sahrani amid tensions with the neighbouring Communist Democratic Republic of Sahrani to the north; as part of an operation to train the military forces of the Kingdom of South Sahrani . Blog updates are usually posted by William Porter himself or his friend Frank; the posts detail their everyday routines on Sahrani and tell of the hard life on the island.
