Codarl, 9 april, 2006.

I would like to know how much info we need before this page can be revealed to the public.

The "Troubleshooting" section seems to be something nobody wants to edit (although I've been tempted to use the < s > < /s > tags). Also, The Avon's Lady OFP FAQ covers just about everything related to OFP's history, background and troubleshooting already, though directly copying from that site wouln't be the most moral thing I've done.

Also, I am wondering what other data we could add... share your ideas here!

I have created some new categories linked from the main page for Addons, Missions and Campaigns in line with the exiting one for Editing. I am concerned to try and help people find the right stuff easily, especially new users of OFP, Armed Assult and whatever OFP2 becomes. It is also easy to miss out the introductory stuff that is really necessary, so that users new to any kind of customization of the game, including using the built-in editor do not feel lost! I must admit that the first time I opened up the OFP Editor, I thought "that looks interesting, I wonder where I can get some information on how to use it!".

I accept that there is some excellent information available on sites such as Avon's Lady OFP FAQ (and we used to have a lot on OFPEC too, which are working very hard to put back, bigger and better!), but there is no harm in repeating some of the introductory information here, with references to more detailed information including good reference material like the COMREF, then providing cross-references to more in-depth information, tutorials and downloads available at other sites.

Should this main page be grouped into lists. for instance it would make more sense for OPF, and Armed Assault and Elite, next gen to be all groups together in a list form, and then the Addons, editing, modelling grouped together. Kind of like the forums. Just a thought.

edit: There's no category for Map Editing. Not sure where it fits in but I think it should be included.

Well I agree with you hoz, and so I have had a go at doing so. Hope you like it?

... of course someone else may have other ideas and change it once more :-)

Hoz suggested about having some kind of image on the front page, I thought of the idea of using multiple images in a film strip style because it's an obvious thin & long visual style we could use, for now it's a mockup with a bunch of ArmA shots, an alternative could be pack shots showing BI's publishing history in order: Fairy Tale,Opf,Res,VBS1,Elite,ArmA,VBS2,Game2

Thoughts?

aye... nice idea. however...

the film strip gives an overly cinematic feel to it. it's nice and everything, but the film connotation leads away from the game-ness of flashpoint. picky point.

less picky is the fact that it doesn't fit on 1024x768 resolution. needs shortening by about 75 pixels.

On the main page it's okay with ArmA/VBS2 (as soon as VBS2 is out) shots I think. The publishing history would fit better on BI's Projects page (Category:Projects) imho. Somebody who knows 2D editing can put it together from released screens...

btw: Is it impossible to link Category pages? [[Category:Projects | this is a Category page]] does not work...
