Introduction

This Expansion for Cold War Rearmed² adds West German Infantry, Paratroopers, Long Range Recon units and their weapons. We added also a fine selection of vehicles and objects like rifle range targets, custom ammo crates and a tent.

The CWR2 Addon West German Army forces was released in September 2014. It contains West German soldiers and equipment around the year 1985.

Backround

After Germany has lost the Second World War, the country was divided in three parts (West, East and polish controlled german territory). In the West the Allies built up a democratic state (FRG) and in the East the Soviets an communism counterpart (GDR). Konrad Adenauer, the first chancellor of West Germany (since 1949) was very afraid about the uparmed military police units in East Germany. He wants already a part of NATO with an own army. Many Germans were against it because of the bad experiences in the last war. In 1955 West Germany enters the NATO and founded the new West German Army who was officially known as Bundeswehr (Federal Defence). In 1956 the first units was introduced with American, British and a little bit Wehrmacht items. One year later the first conscription recruits were called in. The Bundeswehr was founded on experiences of World War generals like Manstein or Speidel. Two special officers of this era was the father of the actual German Federal Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maizière, Ulrich de Maizière and the WWII fighter ace Erich Hartmann. The first time of the Bundeswehr was equiped with weapons from the USA, Belgium or Israel. In the late 1960's to the 1970's the Army was more equipped with modern own developed material like Leopard Tanks, Marder, Luchs, Fuchs or VW Jeeps. When Germany was reunited in 1990 the Bundeswehr overtaken the East German Army and was massive reduced. At the same time the Army introduced an new battle dress (Flecktarn) and take part of international conflicts like Cambodia, Somalia, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan or small peace keeping operations. In July 2011 the conscription was suspended for peacetime by federal legislature effective.
